“Tharon sends criminals on rescue missions? I’m not buying this load of crap.” She struggled, but when Khaun didn’t release her, she turned her head away, refusing to look at them.

“We’re not criminals.” Keir took her hands. “We were never on Pelonius. That was part of our cover story. We’ve been tracking you and the other females Magnus kidnapped for months now. On the Luna with Kyra.”

She turned her tear-streaked face to him. “You know Kyra?”

“Kyra and Aliya and Cass. Your commander is as fearless and brave as any Tharan warrior. You know she escaped captivity when Magnus raided our planet. Our fellow warriors Rhynn and Rhom found her in the Great Swamp and took her with them on their mission to rescue Aurora and the other Tharan females. When they caught up with your ship, the Luna, Cass took off on her own. She rendered the craft immobile and faced down Magnus. She nearly died at his hand when our warriors stormed the ship,” he added. “It was her Bond with Rhynn that saved her life – and the lives of all the other hostages.”

“They’re free? All of them?”

“Not all of your crew have been located yet. Your first officer, Delta, and astrobiology specialist, Jasmine, are still out there somewhere in the galaxy, along with many of the hostages.” Keir waved a hand. “But we have a lead on their whereabouts, and another Tharan ship is tracking them right now. As for Magnus, he’s dead, along with half his men. The pirates who survived the battle with our warriors have been delivered to the worlds they raided, to face justice from their victims.”

“You said you’ve been on my ship, the Luna, for months.” She glared at them, still suspicious. “What did you people do, hijack it yourselves after you got rid of Magnus?”

Khaun shook his head. “It’s part of a joint rescue effort, between your Interstellar Federation and our Tharan Council. Commander Randall herself suggested it. Your ship is built for speed, much faster than the Gemini VII Rhynn and Rhom were in. After they took down Magnus, your commander headed back to Tharon on the Gemini to recuperate from her injuries, accompanied by medical officer Aliya and the hostages we recovered. Kyra stayed on board the Luna. As chief mechanical officer, she thought she’d be needed to help our crew learn how to operate the ship’s advanced technology. You Earthers built a fine vessel,” he added with approval in his voice.

“And Aura is really your sister?”

“That little vixen? She’s been a plague in our lives since the day she learned to talk. Getting us in trouble with our fathers, squealing on us every time we did anything wrong.” Keir tried to sound stern, but the grin on his face gave him away. “I guess that’s what all little sisters do, right?”

“Dagon and Dru begged to be assigned to this mission, but Commander Jynn refused,” Khaun said. “We had a hard enough time getting Aurora to play along when she saw us.
